Cleartrip CEO ‘announces’ new leader appointment in teaser video

Global online travel company Cleartrip is gearing up to announce a new leader or ‘Captain’. Ayyappan R, CEO, Cleartrip, in a short video message on LinkedIn made this announcement, but with a suspense in the end of the message.

While teaser ad campaigns and teasers for upcoming films have become the norm, this is probably one of the first instances of a teaser video to announce the appointment of a new leader.

The video starts with Ayyappan ‘addressing’ a supposed press meet, and stating that Cleartrip has had a good 2024. “I have a very important message to share...We are onboarding a new ‘Captain’ for Cleartrip,” he goes on to say.

However, every time he tries to announce the name, the noise of cheering crowds in the background drowns his voice, much to his chagrin. Ultimately, he gives up and the video ends with Ayyappan saying, “Never mind, stay tuned.”

Ayyappan is currently overseeing the transition period at Cleartrip after having announced his decision to quit the group in February 2024. In a LinkedIn post, he had stated, “After 11 years, 10 Big Billion Days, 7 different roles, 3 very different companies (Flipkart Myntra Cleartrip) time has come for me to bid adieu to the Flipkart group - the OG of the startup ecosystem in the country.”

“Me leaving the Flipkart group, which has been my home for the last 11 years, and starting up is my own independent decision since I have always wanted to be an entrepreneur and I feel the time is right to do it now,” he added.

Ayyappan had joined the group as a Senior Manager 11 years back and rose to become CEO.

“I’m around for a few more months and will have a smooth transition plan for the continued scale up of Cleartrip,” he further said.
